Chores. by Peter age 9
This is my daily route for chores. I am not going to count all the stuff inside, but I am going to talk about my chickens.
First, I grab the egg basket and walk down with it. When it s a day to let the chickens out, the first thing I do is undo the latch and throw open the door and it is really funny because the chickens come all running out and lots of them fly though the roosters mostly just run.
Step 2: After that is done, I go inside to check and get the eggs. Yesterday, I had to clutter up this chicken's place where she and a few others always lay their eggs on the floor, so they wouldn't lay them on the floor. Today, it sort of worked, though there was still 1 egg on the floor. Everybody else, except one hen who laid hers on the nest box, laid them inside the nest box.
Step 3: My sister who is with me while I did and do all that, then will run up the hill and put away the eggs in the refrigerator. After that, I walk half way up the hill, open the door to our basement and fill up the pail with food (though some times I don't fill it up all the way because it would be too much). Then, I put on the lid and walk (though sometimes run) down to the chicken coop and sometimes there is a hen in there getting ready to lay an egg, other times it is completely empty, though still other times there is everybody in there (because it wasn't a day to let them out). Then, I just take off the lid to the pail and empty it into the food thing.
Step 4: This is the hardest part. Now, I either have already brought down the milk gallons filled with water, or they are already down there. After this, I have to lift up the water feeder and unclip it from where it hangs. Then I have to turn it a little (which I usually stand on it) and after that I just empty the gallon(s) into the water feeder. After I am all done with this, I put it back on and hang it back up. This is the hardest part of it and sometimes I get water spilled on my clothes. A few days ago, I accidentally didn't lock it so that the underpart came right off! Luckily I didn't spill much water. After that, I locked it, hung it up and went inside.
Step 4 2/3: Once I am inside, I wash my hands, take off my boots and get on with school-work, unless it's Sunday or Saturday!
