Hurricane on Jupiter: underwater tornado

Today we made a hurricane - just like there are so many storms on Jupiter. The hurricane looked like one that you could see on the weather, kind of. And it also looked like an underwater tornado. That's why you see underwater tornado in our title.


You might like to try this at home. As long as you don't care getting wet. And do not complain that you have to put it on your blog!


I thought it would look like a whirlwind or something spinning around fast and getting sucked down like a tornado. It takes a while, although you might want to put something that can float but is also kind of heavy in it to be like, "help! I can't swim in this underwater tornado!"


First, things you need:
- two bottles, the bigger they are, the bigger your hurricane. Make sure the place where there is a hole on the top is one inch wide

1. - a one-inch wide washer. We don't mean a washing machine or a dishwasher - we mean the kind that you use to work with like with a bolt.


2. - duct tape - any kind of tape that doesn't let water through and can stick really well.


3. - if you want to, some tiny toys able to fit through the hole in the washer.


4. - water - for sure.

Next, how to do this project:
Fill one of the bottles two thirds with water. Make sure the tiny toys can fit through the hole in the washer and your tornado can be more fun if they can float, since then once you get it started they are still at the top. Then they can get caught by the tornado part and get suckked down through the hole. Next, set the washer on the bottle filled with water. Then, use duct tape or the tape you've got that's strong and waterproof to attach the other bottle on top. Wrap the tape around tightly, use 2 or 3 long strips. Then, before you start to make the hurricane, make sure it doesn't leak by turning the two bottles over.

Here comes the fun part: turn the bottles over the way the one full of water is on the top. Then, use a parent and spin the bottle with your fingers until you see something that looks like a tornado. Then you can set the bottle down and there's your hurricane! You can try this many times, as long as you keep the duct tape pushed (and keep adding some to it) so you will never have any leaks.

The only trouble we had was making the hurricane since it sometimes fell down and then we had to start over. That's why you need a parent. And also, another problem is you need to put a towel under your hurricane in case it starts leaking.
